Arm cones
Arm cone mechanics for poi are explored by relating your circling hand to the shoulder as the cone’s apex. You’ll feel how moving your hand closer to the shoulder widens the cone and increases the circle size, while reaching away narrows it and limits range. The aim is finding a wide, usable cone without forcing the hand plane flush with the shoulder, keeping the pattern comfortable and repeatable.
Nick Woolsey also links arm cone choice to whole-body turning. By rotating through ankles, knees, hips, waist, and chest, you keep the arm working in the stronger forward half of the shoulder’s range, reducing strain and supporting long-term drilling and proprioception.
