Q&A: Developing backward split-time rhythm

Nick Woolsey breaks down how to stabilise a backward split-time rhythm in poi by checking that the centre point stays visually “locked” as you circle back. The focus is on isolating the middle so you can tell immediately when timing slips into same-time.

You’ll drill the feel through whole-body coordination, using opposite shoulder and arm actions like pedalling a bicycle backwards. A key training method is short, clean reps with deliberate stops to avoid accumulating same-time habits, plus using a wall or surface for tactile feedback to reinforce an even 1–2–3–4 pulse.
