Controlling poi with the arms crossed
Practise holding poi patterns while your arms are crossed, building comfort and control in an unusual body position. Work both same-time and split-time, aiming to keep clean planes even when the shape feels awkward or ‘floppy’ at first.
Drill switching which hand is on top, then cross in, sustain a few beats, and uncross smoothly. This develops reliable transitions into and out of crossed armwork, supporting steadier two-beat timing and giving you a base to later explore range changes such as higher/lower, further/closer, and one high one low without losing alignment.
