Crossing poi forward split-time (2-beat weaves)
Crossing forward split-time 2-beat weaves are drilled as a lead-hand pattern that alternates between uncrossed and crossed arm positions. You practise keeping one poi leading as it passes each foot, then crossing over the opposite forearm to maintain split-time timing rather than accidentally switching to a left-lead.
Nick Woolsey emphasises compact hands and letting the body turn and “bob” with the weave so the plane stays clean and the pattern feels smooth. You also rehearse entering from forward split-time spinning and training both lead sides evenly, building a reliable base for three-beat weaves and other crossing applications.
