Left right reverses
Build left–right coordination for poi reverses using a quick hand-independence drill, then apply the same split-attention to two-poi timing. Start with both poi spinning forwards, then reverse one side to enter opposites, and alternate right and left reverses to cycle between forwards and backwards in opposites.
Nick Woolsey frames this as a foundation for intermediate patterns, emphasising clean direction changes and staying oriented through the transition. If it breaks down, step back to simpler building blocks: keep one poi spinning while the other swings, then rebuild towards a controlled stall-and-reverse on each side.
