Meet the tree 2
Nick Woolsey explores using a tree as three-dimensional feedback to refine your poi hand-paths and body planes. You’ll practise keeping your hands slightly outside shoulder width and a couple of inches off a fixed object, building cleaner alignment and reducing self-collisions when your poi travel close to your body.
The drill emphasises proprioception by facing away from the tree and repeatedly “freezing” to check distance and plane consistency without relying on mirrors. You’ll alternate simple arm swings and forward/backward circles, using light taps or near-misses as feedback to calibrate where your planes are, especially for behind-the-back control.
