Playing freeze
Use the “freeze” game to audit and refine your poi control inside a weave, especially at the arms-crossed moment. You’ll practise stopping mid-pattern without losing timing, plane integrity, or rhythm, then resuming smoothly. Each pause highlights where your pathway collapses, speeds up, or drifts off-plane, which is often what makes a weave feel uncomfortable or look sloppy.
Nick Woolsey frames this as a repeatable drill you can run to music by freezing on set counts. As your confidence improves, expand the freezes into more positions and patterns, aiming to be able to pause anywhere and reliably hold structure before continuing.
