Poi spinning lesson smoothing 5-beat weave
Refine a 5-beat weave by diagnosing why it feels “floppy” and rebuilding it from a clean, even 3-beat weave. Nick Woolsey emphasises keeping the wrists and forearms very close (even touching) to stabilise plane control, keep both poi the same size, and support consistent timing.
You then isolate the difficult wrap-through in the middle by looping just the cross-and-return that “catches the fifth beat”. Drilling this as a tight 2-beat pattern on each side helps smooth the rhythm of the 4th–5th beats, then reintegrate it into the full 5-beat weave for cleaner continuity.
