Sky view of 3-beat and 5-beat weaves
From a sky view, Nick Woolsey contrasts 3-beat and 5-beat poi weaves so you can recognise the pathway difference and keep your timing clean. In 3-beat, each poi leads across to the far side; in 5-beat, each poi returns to its own side, changing how the hands cross and unwind.
The drill focuses on overriding the “cross over” habit by tucking the poi through past the leg to create space for the other poi to snake around. You’ll use the shared neutral “teddy bear” moment to switch between 3-beat and 5-beat, and to access a backwards 5-beat weave.
