Using the world to spot for whirls
Practise spotting clean poi whirls by using real-world lines as a visual guide. Nick Woolsey has you find a clear reference like a beam or goalpost so you can track an upline, ceiling line, and downline, training your eyes to follow one continuous arc rather than a loopy “loop-de-loop” at the top.
Start by tracing the path with your hand and footwork, aiming to return to the same start point and “chop” straight down the intended line. Use the reference to catch when your downline drifts, repeat until you can hit the line twice in a row, then add the poi at slow speed for more consistent whirl timing and plane control.
