More on turning with the weaves smoothly
Refine smooth turns while maintaining clean weave planes. Nick Woolsey drills footwork and body orientation first, using a wall or table edge for tactile feedback so your hand stays stable as you rotate, reducing knee strain by shuffling and lifting the feet. You’ll rehearse the weave timing as a clear three-beat rhythm, keeping the poi in straight planes rather than muscling the arms.
The focus is syncing the turn with over–under geometry so the poi naturally switch sides on the correct beat. You’ll also explore a consistent cross point, feeling a down-cross then up-cross as you turn, to keep the weave coherent through rotation.
