Playing with Lockouts from weaves

Working from a poi weave, you’ll practise adding lockouts by briefly opening the arms into a clean freeze, then returning to the same weave timing and direction. The focus is on using body sway and turning with the weave so the lockout lands crisply without losing rhythm.

Nick Woolsey explores different lockout placements on either side and at horizontal or vertical ‘cardinal’ points, using the sternum as an imaginary centre for symmetrical arm expansion. You’ll drill repeated freeze-and-continue choices to build control, explore asymmetry options, and start linking lockouts into flower-like pathways while maintaining consistent plane and orientation.
