Footwork - turning on concrete safely
Refine turning footwork for poi practise on high-friction surfaces like concrete, with a focus on knee safety and efficient pivots. You’ll drill quarter-turn steps to build balance and subtle weight shifts, keeping your head stacked over the pivoting foot while using the other leg to push and reset.
Nick Woolsey emphasises reducing resistance by briefly unweighting the pivot foot, turning through the toes and bringing the heel around with a light “bounce”, so knees track over toes. The goal is a comfortable step–pivot rhythm you can progress gradually over months, adjusting for your own mobility and range of motion.
