Practicing turning footwork
Drill a repeatable turning footwork pattern for poi work by rehearsing a stepping circle in both directions. You practise pivoting on the ball of the lead foot while the other foot lands through the heel, building the turn piece by piece until it loops smoothly.
Nick Woolsey emphasises posture and joint safety while turning: keep your head tall, minimise looking down, and rotate the foot towards the travel direction to reduce knee torque. Use this as a weekly baseline to support clean turns, reliable orientation changes, and steadier timing when layering poi patterns on top.
