Turning freely with one poi
Work a single poi circle while turning your body through different facings, keeping the spin plane consistent as you rotate. Nick Woolsey maps each direction you face to a specific relationship between turn and hand path, so you can reliably find clockwise and counterclockwise timing, plus forward- and backward-crossing as you move.
Drill leaving the poi spinning on an “imaginary wall”, then turn to reorient and continue with the appropriate crossing on that side. The aim is to build directional awareness and relaxed transitions so you can shuffle, turn freely, and keep the pattern stable before adding more complex variations.
