Easing into 1-beat windmill - some tips
Work up to a one-beat windmill by using a controlled “launching pattern” rather than forcing the stall. Nick Woolsey uses a wall or other reference for visual/visceral feedback, starting in forward split-time and bringing the hands to windmill height near the ears.
Drill brief entries by turning the head into the windmill orientation, then returning to split-time before habits degrade. Gradually extend the hold from a moment to multiple turns, adding shoulder opening as control improves. Repeat the same progression from the opposite direction to build symmetry and reliable transitions into the 1-beat windmill.
