Shortening the poi while spinning: wrapping around your hands and fingers

Drill shortening your poi mid-spin by wrapping the tether onto your hand, then unwrapping cleanly back to full length. Nick Woolsey breaks down two wrap directions, toward the thumb into a key grip versus toward the pinky, and focuses on the thumb-side wrap for reliable control.

You’ll practise timing the wrap on backward split-time by opening the hand, then reversing to unwrap, before adding a key concept: arm orientation changes the wrap. By choosing crossed or uncrossed arms in forward and backward patterns, you can wrap or unwrap on demand and start spotting wrap points inside weaves and butterflies.
